Boeing’s Pipeline Project was a critical part of preparing the next generation of manufacturing workers to replace a workforce that was rapidly approaching retirement age. I was chosen to lead the new Structured-On-the-Job-Training (SOJT) instructional design team that would work with subject matter experts to understand, document and film their job roles, and prepare on-the-job training and onboarding for hundreds of new hires, who would fill these critical factory roles in the future.
I developed the project’s documentation and processes, including the learning development cycle, needs analysis and evaluation methods, training formats and templates, script, video and editing workflows, and methods for shadowing and partnering with the project’s many subject matter experts.
I also interviewed, selected and trained my team of instructional designers, onboarding them using the employee handbook I created, and working with each team member one-on-one to mentor them in the project’s methods and roles. After they were ready to start, I managed the team’s project schedules, assignments, workflows and quality assurance, as well as its equipment procurement and budgeting, and leadership briefing and reporting.
